Today's journey takes us to Caesarea, an ancient city where the Apostle Paul was imprisoned before his journey to Rome. Explore the Roman Theater and aqueduct, reflecting the grandeur of the once-mighty Roman Empire. Next, we visit Muhraka, a captivating mountaintop where Prophet Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal in a pivotal biblical moment. Continuing on, we reach Megiddo, a site of great significance in apocalyptic prophecies, believed to be the location of the final battle of Armageddon. Our final stop is Acre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich Christian history. Discover the underground Crusader City and crypt, providing insights into the fascinating era of the Crusaders. Walk through the Old City, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, and visit the local market and harbor.

Enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus performed many of his miracles, including walking on water; Next, visit the Yigal Alon Center where the "Jesus boat," an ancient fishing boat from the 1st century, is displayed; Continue to Capernaum to visit the remains of the 2nd century synagogue. Stop at Tabgha, the site of the Miracle of Fish and Loaves, and visit the Church of Multiplication with its 4th century mosaic floor. Proceed to Mount of Beatitudes, the place where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Drive to the Banias springs and tour the Golan Heights.

Drive to Cana to visit the Wedding Church, where Jesus performed his first miracle turning water into wine. Continue to Nazareth, hometown of Jesus, to visit the Church of Annunciation, Joseph’s workshop and Mary’s well. Proceed to Yardenit, the baptismal site on the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.  Proceed to Beit Shean to visit the newly excavated Roman city and amphitheater. Today, we explore Jerusalem, the city of peace, where Jesus was crucified and resurrected. Our tour starts with a visit to Mount of Olives, with a magnificent panoramic view of Jerusalem, where Jesus ascended into heaven. We then visit the Church of All Nations, King David's Tomb, and the Room of Last Supper on Mt. Zion. Our journey then takes us to the Old City to explore the Cardo, an ancient Roman street, and the Jewish and Christian quarters. Here, we see the Jewish Wailing Wall, the Via Dolorosa, and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which marks the site of Jesus's crucifixion and burial. We also visit the Garden Tomb, a serene and lovely garden believed by many to be the site of Jesus's resurrection.

Head out to the Ein Karem neighborhood, the birthplace of John the Baptist, and visit the Church of Visitation, where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. We then visit Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the Holocaust.
Onto the Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book, where the Dead Sea scrolls are housed, and the miniature model of Jerusalem as it was during the Second Temple period. Proceed to *Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus; visit Shepherds' Field; walk through Manger Square to visit the remarkable Church of Nativity. Return to Jerusalem.

Drive through the Judean Desert, leading you to the extraordinary Dead Sea, the Earth's lowest point, and situated approx. 1300 feet (400 meters) below sea level. Stop at Qumran, where the famed Dead Sea scrolls were discovered. Drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to reach Masada, the last refuge of Jews after the destruction of the Second Temple. Ascend by cable car and tour the mountain fortress built by King Herod. Descend by cable car and continue to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth; enjoy the opportunity to float in the unsinkable water and cover yourself with the mineral rich mud, believed to have therapeutic effects.

Leave Jerusalem and enjoy a captivating southbound journey through the Negev Desert. Make a stop at Timna, a vast geological and archaeological park, where you will be enchanted by the breathtaking multi-colored rock formations and fascinating copper mines. Do not miss the chance to witness the impressive Solomon's Pillars, adding a touch of historical wonder to your experience. Continue your expedition to the vibrant city of Eilat, nestled on the northern shores of the Red Sea. Discover the remarkable Underwater Observatory Marine Park, ingeniously built into a coral reef, offering you an up-close and immersive encounter with the vibrant marine life of the Gulf of Eilat, leaving you with unforgettable memories of the wonders that lie beneath the Red Sea's surface.

After assistance with border formalities, drive straight to Petra, the astonishing rose-red city built by the Nabateans (an early Arab tribe). Petra is renowned for its massive architecture, pools, dams and water channels. The visit begins with the possibility of a short horseback riding for about 700m. until the entrance of the Siq, which is about 1.2 km long (walking distance). Petra is famous for its huge monuments such as the treasury, royal tombs, the court, Roman theatre, Roman street, Qasr al-Bint (Palace of Pharaoh’s daughter) and many other smaller fascinating monuments. The city itself is almost 45 km² and is considered to be the second wonder of the world. After the visit, time for lunch in a nearby restaurant. After lunch, drive back to border. On the way, a short visit to Aqaba with the possibility to stop and take a walk around. Transfer to the border at around 18:00 and cross back to Eilat.

Leave Eilat behind and head to Mitzpe Ramon. Take a captivating pause to marvel at the geological wonder of the Ramon Crater, while also visiting the remarkable Mitzpe Ramon visitors’ center, which offers unique insights into this extraordinary natural formation. Most travel and tours of Israel take in the Mount of Olives, a mountain ridge situated adjacent to the Old City of Jerusalem, and so-named because of the olive groves that once abundantly grew here. The mount has served as a Jewish cemetery for over 3000 years and has over 150,000 graves. Many important events from the Gospels are said to have taken place here, and it is especially known as the place of Jesus’ ascension to heaven. Because of this, it has been a revered Christian site for a millennia and remains today a major pilgrimage site for Christians and a mainstay of a holy land tours

Notable sites of interest on the Mount are the Church of all Nations, the Church of Maria Magdalene, Gethsemane, and Church of the Pater Noster, the Tomb of Zachariah the Orson Hyde Memorial Hospital and Mary’s Tomb. The Emek Tzurim National Park resides at the base of the Mount.

The Church site is venerated as Golgotha (Hill of Calvary), the place where Christ was crucified, making it a pilgrimage center for Christians from all around the world. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is also identified as being the place of Jesus’ burial, and the place of his resurrection. The church has had a turbulent history, being almost completely destroyed, and when rebuilt suffering neglect, fire and earthquake damage. In 1959 the Church was renovated by Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic and Roman Catholic custodians, each of whom guard their sections within the Church.

Highlights of a visit include the first century exterior façade of the Church built by the Crusaders, the Stone of Unction, there to commemorate the preparation of Jesus’ body for burial, and behind this a mosaic depicting the scene. The Rotunda features surviving 4th century columns, and marks the site of Christ’s tomb, an area that is now surmounted by a large dome. 



Church of the Holy Sepulchre

When visiting Israel, the Armenian Quarter is generally included on a tour. It covers a sixth of the area contained within the Old Walls. Some Christians believe it is the site of Mount Zion and one of the gates of the Old City to the southern end of the quarter is called Zion Gate. A large section of the Armenian Quarter is occupied by an Armenian Monastery, while there are also a number of churches situated here belonging to various Christian denominations which is why many Christian tours to Israel include this in the itinerary. The Syrian Orthodox church of St Marks is of particular interest and visitors are recommended to take in the spectacular views from the top of the Maronite Patriarchate. The Cathedral of St James is the largest Armenian Church in Israel.

The Armenian Museum is housed within a former Armenian Theological Seminary. The collections include archeological artifacts relating to the Armenian presence in Jerusalem including mosaic pavements and 1st century frescoes. The Gulbenkain Library contains rare manuscripts as does nearby St Toros Church.



Armenian Quarter

The Western Wall is one of the holiest Jewish sites and a must-see highlight of Jewish Israel tours. The wall is a remnant of a wall dating back to the time of King Herod, part of the retaining wall that enclosed the Second Temple. The wall is also known as the ‘Wailing Wall’ due to the fact that Jews have gathered here for centuries to lament the loss of their temple. The Western wall features a plaza that serves as an open-air synagogue large enough to accommodate several thousands of worshipers. Prayers take place here both in the daytime and at night, as well as special services.

History of the Wailing Wall                                               

The wall was built by King Herod in 20 BC as part of his expansion of the Temple enclosure. According to Jewish historian Josephus the walls took 11 years to build, and during this time it only ever rained during the night, enabling work to continue during the day. The Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD, after which the Jews made the wall a place of pilgrimage. For many centuries the wall was located in a narrow alleyway, only accessible to a few hundred worshipers, but in 1967 Israelis created the Western Wall Plaza, a place where thousands could come to pray. The wall was also made higher by digging down to expose further tiers of ashlars or square stones from the original plaza’s wall, buried under centuries of debris.

The large lower down ashlars date back from the times of Herod the Great, while those higher up date from Fatimid and Omayyad times.  At the prayer section of the wall bits of paper with prayers written on them can be seen stuffed into the crevices, while many can be found chanting prayers here. 



The Kotel – Western Wall

The Via Dolorosa, or ‘Way of Suffering’ is an important site for those on a holy land vacation, a street comprising two parts located within the Old City of Jerusalem. Of special significance to Christians, it is said to be the path walked by Jesus while carrying his cross, on the way to his crucifixion. The route has long been a site of Christian pilgrimage with the current street having been established in the 18th century. Marked by a series of stations, five being situated inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

The traditional route

The traditional route starts just inside Lion’s Gate, or St Stephan’s Gate, close to the location of the former Antonia Fortress. The first and second stations commemorate Jesus’s encounter with Pontius Pilate where there are three churches, the Church of the Condemnation and Imposition of the Cross, Church of the Flagellation and Church of Ecco Homo. Next to the Church of the Ecco Homo is an arch built by Hadrian. Subsequent stations are said to represent the times Jesus stumbled on his way to the place of crucifixion. The first fall is represented by the third station where the Polish Catholic Chapel resides. The second fall is represented by the seventh station at a crossroads, adjacent to the Franciscan chapel, while the third fall is the ninth station located at the entrance to the Ethiopian Orthodox Monastery.

Other stations

Other stations of note include the point at which Jesus met his mother Mary, a station commemorating the place where Jesus met Veronica and a station where Jesus was said to have met with pious women.

Each Friday a Roman Catholic procession walks the route, headed by Franciscan monks, while there are also frequent re-enactments en-route, some of which are more professional than others. Israel tour operators will be able to identify the best days to visit.

A Jerusalem tour simply wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. The walled Old City is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with the Jewish quarter situated to the southeast corner. In 1948, the Old City was occupied by Jordon and most of the ancient buildings were destroyed. In 1967, however, when Israel regained control of the Old City, the remains were excavated and buildings reconstructed.

The Hurva Synagogue which dominated the skyline prior to its destruction in 1948 was not initially rebuilt because of disagreements. Instead, a commemorative arch was erected here and it was only in 2000 that work finally began on the reconstruction of the building - which was opened to the public in 2010. The Western Wall is located in the Jewish quarter, the remains of a temple wall built in the times of Herod. The Burnt House is the site of the remains of a house burnt down by the Romans in 70 AD. The house is also known as Katros House because of the inscription ‘bar katros’ which was discovered on weights in the house. The Cardo, or ‘Cardo Maximus’ is a Roman-Byzantine street featuring colonnades dating back to the sixth century AD. The Broad Wall is what remains of the thick city walls erected by Hizkiah at the time when the first temple existed, and visitors can see 45 meters of wall on display here.

The City of David
The City of David, named after King David, is the oldest settlement in Jerusalem. King David established the city 3000 years ago, in order to unify the tribes of Israel, and his son, Solomon, built the First Temple on the northern border. The area is home to many archeological sites of interest including an intact underground water system.

Visit the most beautiful coastline in Israel

Rosh Hanikra is the site of a unique geological formation, situated at the most northernmost point on Israel’s Mediterranean coast, in the Western Galilee. Accessible by cable car down the cliff face, visitors can follow set trails and see the formations close up. The grottoes and caves are cavernous tunnels created over thousands of years by the action of the sea on soft chalk rock. Around 200 meters long, they branch into different routes some of which interconnect with each other. Before the cable car was installed the only access to them was via the sea, by experienced divers. An audio-visual presentation is available to help visitors understand more about the grottoes at Rosh Hanikra, and there is also a restaurant and tourist facilities located here.

The Baha'i Gardens are a highlight on any Israel tour, attracting over half a million visitors a year.  In July 2008, the gardens received World Heritage Site status for their universal value as a holy site and place of pilgrimage for followers of the Baha'i Faith.

The gardens form a staircase of nineteen terraces which extend all the way up the northern slope of Mount Carmel. On the central terrace stands the golden domed Shrine of the Bab where the Prophet-Herald of the Baha'i Faith is interred, making this a particularly sacred spot for Baha'i followers.
